Before and after scalp micropigmentation restoring a receding hairline with replicated hair follicles
What is SMP

a hair tattoo that reads as hair

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical hair loss solution that replicates natural hair follicles, one by one, restoring density, rebuilding hairlines, and quietly giving you your confidence back.

Often called a hair tattoo, hairline tattoo, or scalp tattoo, SMP grows out of the centuries-old practice of cosmetic tattooing, refined with modern pigments and application methods for maximum realism and minimal discomfort. Each dot of custom pigment is placed to match your natural growth pattern and density, recreating the look of a healthy head of hair without surgery, transplants, or medication.

Is SMP for you

who it helps

  • 01Men with hair loss or a receding hairlineCreate a clean, natural-looking stubble, a permanent 5 o'clock shadow, or redefine the hairline.
  • 02Women with thinning hairFill sparse areas with soft, natural-looking hair strokes and the appearance of real density.
  • 03Scars & hair transplantsCamouflage scalp scars and add visual density on top of a hair transplant.
Process & Sessions

built in layers, session by session

Realism comes from patience. Each session layers more detail until the result is subtle, natural, and undetectable.

  1. consultation

We start with a 30-minute consultation ($50) to review your hair and scalp, talk through your goals, and map out sessions and pricing, because both depend on the size of the area we treat. Prices do not include taxes and credit card fees.

  2. layered sessions

Hair follicles are replicated one by one with precise, custom-blended pigment. Most treatments take multiple sessions, each adding density and detail, covering thinning areas, shaping a new hairline, or building on a transplant.

  3. heal & maintain

SMP is semi-permanent: pigments fade gradually over the years. An occasional touch-up keeps the density and tone looking fresh, especially if you swim often or spend time in the sun.

Questions

smp, answered

Is scalp micropigmentation permanent?

SMP is best described as semi-permanent. The pigment is implanted into the scalp, so it will not wash off or smear, but it is designed to fade gradually over the years. Because SMP pigment sits at a shallower depth than a traditional tattoo and does not scar the tissue, it lightens over time. Sun exposure, swimming, and your skin type all affect how fast it fades, so plan on a periodic touch-up to keep the density and tone looking their best.

Does SMP hurt?

The scalp is a sensitive area, so some discomfort is natural, but most clients find SMP far more comfortable than a traditional tattoo. The needles are finer and the pigment is placed less deeply. We apply a topical anesthetic before treatment and take breaks as needed during longer sessions. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and discomfort may build over a long session, which we manage together.

How many sessions will I need?

SMP is built up in layers. Each session adds another pass of detail, density, tone, and hairline refinement, so the result reads as completely natural. Most treatments take multiple sessions; the exact number and price depend on the size of the area we treat, which is why we start with a 30-minute consultation ($50) to assess your hair and map out a plan.

Will it look like real hair?

Yes, that is the entire point. Each follicle is replicated one by one with custom-matched pigment, placed to follow your natural hair growth pattern and density. Men typically choose a clean, natural stubble look (a 5 o'clock shadow), while women use SMP to fill thinning areas with soft, realistic hair strokes. Done well, the result is undetectable.

Can SMP camouflage scars or a hair transplant?

Yes. SMP is an excellent way to conceal scalp scars, including transplant scars, by blending pigment into the surrounding hair. It can also add the appearance of density on top of a hair transplant, making thin coverage look fuller.
